caught this saying on last night's seinfeld. learned that it's from a subversive civil war song, blue-tailer fly, in which a slave sings about how his master got drunk, fell, hit his head, and died. like many old stories/expressions, there are different versions to follow. but we now use it for a common purpose, as sung by the slave, "and i don't care".
folksongs are always interesting to discover, like "cats in the cradle", very southern and slightly sad.

back to the gym
thanks to a sweating experience at my friend's gym of his university, i decided to join my own gym. so here comes the lame and unavoidable la fitness. tonight i'm back to yoga and swimming.
one of the reasons that i'm not a fan of working out is that it's just too repeatative. yoga is a good example. i am always high on it when i start off, with new teachers and new sets of poses. then the challenge and freshness are gone, and when i need to repeat the poses, i'm off. following the same logic, i can never be on a running machine or whatever; it's repeating itself from the very beginning.
this time, i dun know how long i will keep up. it's just one of the things i cannot control in my life; so let it be what it's got to be.

google's digitization
Some examples of google's digitization program's efforts:

i'm leaving all the disputes to business men, scholars, legislators, and politicians. just one comment: they do need some good reading tool. the interface is a disgrace to big names like google.
